Mission, Vision & Values
OUR MISSION
Inspiring Community
Through Theatre
Davidson Community Players is a non-profit organization established to produce theatre that entertains, enriches, and encourages community participation in the dramatic arts. The Connie Company is DCP’s theatre for youth division. Both organizations have a long-standing record of providing creative, authentic, and affordable opportunities for both children and adults.
OUR VISION
Theatre as a Civic Pillar
“Community Theatre” has been an evolving concept in American theatre over the years. We embrace this phrase as a mandate to direct all of our programming toward the good of our community. We believe that theatre serves an essential civic function by gathering audiences to witness vital stories, training youth and adults in collaboration, connection, and empathy, and serving as a pillar for any healthy community.
NURTURING LOCAL TALENT
Our Values and Commitment
We believe in nurturing all of our artists. Also, whereas professional regional theatres lean heavily on out-of-town talent, we prioritize opportunities for local artists. DCP is a place where you in the audience can also have the chance to be on stage.
We identify as a community theatre that embraces the following values:
Affordable access to top-tier shows and education.
An open, inclusive space for everyone regardless of race, gender, sexuality, socioeconomic status, age, body type, or ability.
A joyful, supportive work environment for all our staff, artists, and volunteers.
A diverse array of programming: something for everyone across the board, but if you like everything, we’re doing something wrong.
An understanding that we have an obligation to enhance the arts education opportunities for our community.
As a non-profit organization, we stay afloat through a variety of revenue streams including ticket sales, class tuitions, individual donations, government grants, and corporate sponsorships. We also depend on robust volunteerism to support the operational efforts of our small staff.
