Youth Ensemble Classes: Musicals and Straight Plays
DCP offers 2 semesters of Youth Ensemble Classes each year for ages 4-16.
Our spring semester runs March-May, and our fall semester runs September-November.
YOUTH ENSEMBLE CLASSES
Empowering Young Actors
These classes focus on the development of the actor through the production process. Students begin the semester with a healthy dose of instruction and training in theatre. They will learn how to articulate their ideas clearly, project their voices, use body language effectively, and interpret the emotions and intentions of others. The class will then move into rehearsals for the workshop production. They will begin analyzing scripts, interpreting characters, and making creative choices.
Theatre is inherently collaborative, requiring students to work together as a team to bring a production to life. Through the production process students learn the importance of cooperation, compromise, and respecting diverse perspectives.
Ensemble productions are scaled back to keep the emphasis on the process, with actors taking an active role in the development of the production’s set, costumes, lighting and/or props. They are performed free of charge as a community service and are open to the public.
